Zvox Audio

ZVOX Logo

ZVOX Audio has been in the audio and video business a long time. In the early days, a stereo system was a pretty simple thing. But the advent of home theater surround sound systems — with DVD players, Dolby Digital®, DTS, powered subwoofers, dipole surrounds and center speakers — changed all that. The new "home theater in a box" systems are often simplified. But they also tend to sound more like a table radio or a boom box than a high-quality audio system. A ZVOX single-cabinet surround sound systems provide the ultimate in simplicity — but still deliver incredible sound, for music or movies. ZVOX uses very high quality speaker components, a terrific subwoofer, low-distortion amplifiers — and years of experieince — to create accurate, lifelike sound...without complications.

ZVOX technology: a little old, a little new, a lot of wood.

Most audio and video products sold today put their focus on digital technology, new “miracle” materials, flashy industrial design and a lot of molded plastic.

But not ZVOX.

Our products use a unique combination of old-school techniques and unique applications of modern technology.

We like analog.

ZVOX may be the only 21st century manufacturer of analog surround sound systems. They use some digital circuitry, but they are essentially analog designs.

We believe that analog systems generally have a more musically accurate character. A well-designed analog system sounds natural – with none of the “digital weirdness” we hear in many digital surround sound systems (some stuff just doesn’t sound right).

Also analog is simple. We have yet to encounter a digital audio product whose user’s manual is under 18 pages. Digital, for the most part, is complicated. And life, let’s face it, is already way too complicated. So we like analog.

We like technology

Our PhaseCue system generates a very wide sound stage for music -- with the right program material it sounds like you’re listening to speakers eight feet apart from each other. And PhaseCue also create a rich, three-dimensional virtual surround effect with movie soundtracks. Listen to the soundtrack of Master and Commander and you’ll hear deck planks creaking and halyards twanging to your left, to your right and in back of you.

PhaseCue is part science and part art. The system manipulates audio signals – mixing various levels of “in phase” and “out of phase” signal into different speakers – to create this big “out of box” sound effect.

Our Infinite Compliance system connects speaker drivers using special acoustic tubes. The result is a open, “big” sound normally associated with much larger speaker cabinet.

We like wood.

There are two reasons why so many speakers today use plastic cabinets. You can make them into all kinds of fun shapes, and they’re cheap. We like fun shapes, and we like saving money. But we really like good sound. And the best speakers – even models selling for tens of thousands of dollars – are made of wood (medium density fiberboard). The same stuff we use in all our systems. It’s acoustically neutral (it doesn’t vibrate, or “sing along” with the music), and it’s solid. At ZVOX we like wood.

We like high quality speakers

We could save a lot of money by using cheap speakers with weak magnets and flimsy cones. But we’ve been in the audio business a long time and we appreciate quality speakers. They are what we would want to own ourselves, or sell to our friends. We don’t sell anything else.

The ZVOX PhaseCue system creates three-dimensional, room-filling sound – including virtual surround sound effects – out of one, compact cabinet.

ZVOX Mini     ZVOX Mini- The Mini is only 13” wide by 10” deep by 3.3” high. It will easily fit on a shelf above or below your TV. Everything is inside this compact cabinet – speakers, amplifier, virtual surround circuitry and powered subwoofer. $249.99

Details:

  • Weight: Without external power supply: 7 pounds. With external power supply: 10 pounds. With box and packing: 12 pounds.
  • Amplifier: The Mini uses a 40-watt amplifier, but its external power supply is limited to 24.3 watts.
  • Inputs: Two rear “mixing” inputs (if two devices are connected and playing, you will hear both devices): stereo 3.5mm “mini jack” inputs.
  • Frequency range: 63 Hz – 20 kHz.
  • Virtual surround sound: The Mini uses ZVOX’s proprietary PhaseCue virtual surround sound system. PhaseCue, as its name implies, manipulates the phase of the separate channels to “fool the ear” into believing that sound is coming from a variety of sources throughout the room. The benefits of PhaseCue vary greatly based on program material. Live music and well-recorded modern movie soundtracks will deliver rich, three-dimensional sound – pulling the sound out from the speakers and into the room, literally surrounding the listener. Sitcoms, news broadcasts and soundtracks from older movies often have very little in the way of three-dimensional sound. Note: All virtual surround systems – including the PhaseCue system – are limited in their effects when compared to a good 5.1 system. That being said, PhaseCue is capable of generating a wonderful and engaging virtual surround experience.
  • The Mini is bi-amplified, using a specially designed amplifier that includes electronic contouring for superb frequency response.
  • The Mini’s 4”x6" subwoofer uses a high-mass long-throw design and incorporates a bandpass cabinet designed using proprietary software.
  • The Mini's three 2.5" main speaker drivers use ferrofluid and neodymium magnets to create remarkably loud, remarkably clear sound.
  • The system is magnetically shielded so it can be used near a TV or monitor.
  • Unlike most systems in its price range, the Mini uses an MDF (medium density fiberboard) wood cabinet - instead of plastic. MDF is the preferred construction material for high-performance speaker systems.
  • The Mini uses the ZVOX Infinite Compliance system - which connects the outer two main speakers with an acoustic tube. This system helps create big sound from a small cabinet.
  • A subwoofer output jack on the rear allows owners to connect a separate powered subwoofer (optional).
  • Auto-on/auto-off circuit senses sound from source (TV, iPod, PC) and turns on the Mini two seconds later. Three minutes after it has received no signal, it automatically shuts the unit off.
  • Simple, single-cord connecting system uses a mini stereo jack input on rear panel.
  • Two connecting cords are included: one with a stereo mini jack, one with RCA jacks. The ZVOX Mini is backed by a one year limited parts and labor warranty.

ZVOX 325   ZVOX 325- The 325 is only 17” wide by 16” deep by 4.8” high. It is the same width as a standard DVD player or cable box – so it will easily fit on a shelf above or below your TV. Everything is inside this compact cabinet – speakers, amplifier, virtual surround circuitry and powered subwoofer. $349.99

The 325 requires only one connecting cord. Hook it up to the analog audio output jacks on your TV – or the TV’s headphone jack – and you’re virtually done. You can place the 325 above or below your TV. Or you can set it to the right or left of the TV set. Adjust the subwoofer level control so that bass isn’t too strong or too weak -- then sit back and enjoy. Plus the works well with iPods, PCs, satellite radios, wireless audio systems, portable CD players, game consoles – anything with audio output jacks or a headphone jack.

Details:

  • Weight: Without external power supply: 11 pounds. With external power supply: 14 pounts. With box and packing: 16 pounds.
  • Amplifier: The 325 uses a 60-watt amplifier, but its external power supply is limited to 24.3 watts.
  • Inputs: Two rear “mixing” inputs (if two devices are connected and playing, you will hear both devices): stereo 3.5mm “mini jack” inputs. One front-panel 3.5mm mini-jack input for use with iPods or other portable audio devices. When the front input is engaged, all rear inputs are automatically muted – so you will only hear what is plugged into the front input.
  • Frequency range: 63 Hz – 20 kHz.
  • Virtual surround sound: The 325 uses ZVOX’s proprietary PhaseCue virtual surround sound system.
